Tourist InformationThere are many things to do and see in Copenhagen, one of Europe's most dynamic, accessible and friendly capital cities. Denmark is renowned for its elegant sense of modern design, which can be experienced in many of Copenhagens buildings and shops, as well as the cities galleries and museums. There is also a rich historical tradition, routed in the world's oldest surviving monarchy, reflected in the many palaces, churches and other grand buildings in Copenhagen and its surroundings. Central Copenhagen also has one of the highest densities of cafes, bars and restaurants in Europe, and during the summer the cafe culture rivals anything in southern Europe. For those wanting to find peace or experience Demark's nature, the city has a host of parks and gardens, and the large Royal deer park, as well as some of the oldest mixed oak woodland in the world, can be found in easy reach of the city, not to mention unspoilt fishing villages and uncrowded beaches. The second half of the congress will coincide with the Spring-Summer Copenhagen Fashion Week 2010, so there will be many fashion-related events throughout the city The little mermaid(s)The little mermaid has become the international symbol of the city of Copenhagen. However, she won't be in her usual place on "langelinie" during the summer of 2010, as she is on a goodwill visit to World Expo 2010 in China. In her place you will find a video screen showing live images of the little mermaid in Shanghai. A few hundred meters away you will, however, still be able to find the "gene modified little mermaid", as part of the "gene modified paradise" sculpture park. While the little mermaid is in China there is a unique opportunity to see another version of the sculpture, cast from the original moulds, and belonging to the descendants of Edvard Eriksen, the sculptor. This statue has been much more carefully preserved than the "public" sculpture, and has suffered far less from the abrasions of the Danish climate and millions of tourists. She can be found in the lake in Tivoli gardens. Wonderful Copenhagen, the official convention and visitors bureau of the Greater Copenhagen area, runs the tourist information service "Copenhagen Right Now" across from the main entrance of Tivoli Gardens, close to the central station: Copenhagen Right Now Wonderful Copenhagen will be pleased to send you a map of Copenhagen, if you forward your postal address to touristinfo@woco.dk.
